Tingling all over..cant take it anymore

Postby mommylondon on Thu July 29th, 2010 11:46 pm

I know I said I wasnt going to post for a while but this all over tingling is really driving me nuts. It has to have something to do with anxiety doesnt it?? Its all over, even MS and neuropathys arent all over all the time. Its so hard to except that this may never end. Everytime I get rid or get used to a symptom, its disapears and another one takes its place, but this weird tingling has been there for so long now, and its not getting any better, even when my anxiety is way down, I still feel it all over. I thought it was more pronounced in my legs but my arms are feeling it too. Its not pins and needles though. Its so hard to describe or maybe I'm just trying way to hard to describe it. Maybe its a fine tingling, or maybe what some people call a creepy feeling all over? I dont know but I freakin hate it and its driving me nuts because it never stops. Neuro said when he did EMG that ruled out a large fiber neuropathy and told me if I had a small fiber neuropathy that I would most likely have pins and needle feeling in my toes and fingers to start and years later it could spread further. This is all over. What is it?? Please any thoughts.? Is it anxiety or is it the BFS and hyper nerve endings?? Help please

And if anyone does post to this thread, please dont say that I'm having pins and needles because thats not how it feels at all, and its not just in a hand or arm or a leg, its all over all at once. Sorry, just wanted to add that.

Hi there
I'd be suspicious that the worry you have been experiencing might be causing some subtle but chronic hyperventilation that is causing this sensation. It certainly doesn't sound neurological at all. If you think your breathing rate has been up a bit, you could try consciously trying to slow it down and see if this helps the symptoms - it might take a good couple of hours at least of this before you noticed a difference.
Good luck.
Regards
Simon

Thanks Simon, and I have given that some thought myself. I was just getting ready to go to bed and thought "if I'm hyperventilating, wouldnt I be feeling it more in my face and upper extremities and not much in my legs?" I dont know but I will try what you suggested and see if that makes a difference. Thanks again Simon, and take care.

Robyn,

I know how you feel. It always seems like it's one thing after another. I'm sure your anxiety isn't helping things but if it persists and is really bothersome for you maybe you should give your doctor a call and explain whats going on. Maybe he can come up with something. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for responding Barbie, and I did try to call my neuro about it, but the only response I got was him saying that they have tested quite a bit of stuff with me and nothing is coming up so..... He thinks I'm a hyperchondriac, and he doesnt believe BFS is an actual syndrome with other symptoms besides twitching. I cant go to a different Neuro so I'm just left kinda stuck with this stuff. I do have a new family doc though that I will be seeing soon so I will try talking to them and see what they say. Thanks again Barbie, take care

Robynn, what you said above should reassure you that all you have is a benign condition. If it was something bad it would have left a devastating wake in its path not "disapear" or "another one takes its place". Take solace in that.

I experienced very painful migrating cramping and sorness. I couldn't drive a car because my legs were seizing up on me behind the wheel which they did. I would have to stretch for 1 hour before sitting in my car. I freaked out because of the cramping, for obvious reasons, and I thought it was spreading when all it was really doing was moving around. But the muscle the symptoms left would always return to normal.

.....and whether its a "light tingle" or a "tingle" its all the same stuff anyways. Don't split hairs. Buzzing, pins and needles, tingling, numbness, hot or cold sensations, weird skin sensations, cold wet feelings, etc. If you passed all of your neuro tests and your neuro dx you with BFS, another benign nerve thingy, or doesn't believe in those but says your fine........then you are fine.

Robyn,

Since your doctor seems confident that nothing is seriously wrong with you then you should try working on your anxiety. It may really help. I know anxiety meds helped me so much in the beginning.

I'm not splitting hairs Rob, just thought the better I describe it then maybe somebody could relate and maybe say that they experience the same type sensation all over or if its just me. Its probly just me anyway

Hi mommylondon

Did you ever have your vitamin D levels checked? I just read the low vitamin D levels can lead to parasthesia, twitching, and all types of weird problems with the body. I'm on the low side- just found out today.

Thanks Tatsu for responding, I dont think my vitamin D was checked but I dont see how it could possibly be low with all the milk and Ensure Shakes I drink daily. But maybe I'll try adding some supplements on to see if it makes a difference. I just need it to let up a little, its very hard to ignore. Thanks again.

I hope its ok to link to other forums, but I found this thread on another neuro forum. Sounds kind of similar to your symptoms.

Thanks SecretAgentMan, I have given this some thought myself, I think I will give it a serious looking into. A gluetin free diet sounds a little difficult, but I will figure it out. Thanks again for the advise. :)

The biggest difficulty I had was my resistance to it. Once I committed myself to carrying it out, I focused on what I could eat, rather than what I could not eat. It sounds silly, but trust me it helps. Stick with it for a few weeks and see how it goes. Just remember, most limitations we face in life are self imposed.
